There are many ingredients that go into creating a first impression, but a genuine and sincere compliment is certainly a potent one when used appropriately. The first rule on complimenting is simply this: if you see something outstanding, noteworthy, and positive and are thinking it, don't be keep it to yourself. Go ahead and say it! Paying a real compliment is like giving a gift to another human being. So go ahead and give the gift. This may be the only source of positive encouragement that the other person has had today. The second rule on complimenting is this: You can't invent these things. They must be genuine and sincere. If you're seen as artificial and in-genuine you just trigger more defenses and you lose your own credibility. Compliments by the way don't need to be personal. In a B2B settings you can also comment on things that you notice. For example you could make the following observations, "by the way, when walking in here I couldn't help but notice how stunning you're lobby is”, or "how friendly your receptionist is”. You could even congratulate them on an award they've recently received - "I see that you were just recognized as one of the best 50 Employers. Congratulations that must have taken a lot of work and it speaks volumes of your culture.” There are many good tips you can learn from Toronto Corporate Sales Training Seminar and Workshop Events
